Resurfacing Instead of Replacing
Tearing out a patio and pouring a new one is expensive, slow and messy. If the slab underneath is sound, an overlay gives you a new surface without any of that.
The finish is built up over properly prepared concrete, so it bonds rather than sitting on top like paint. That is the difference between an overlay system and the concrete paint or thin sealer sold at a hardware store, which is why one lasts and the other peels.

Where Overlays Work
Patios, entryways, pool decks, courtyards, walkways and interior floors. Anywhere there is concrete you are tired of looking at and no good reason to break it out.
They work indoors too, which surprises people. A plain slab in a shop conversion or a back room takes the same treatment.
What Your Slab Needs First
Not every slab is a candidate, and we will tell you if yours is not.
We look for structural soundness, because an overlay follows the concrete underneath it. Active cracking, significant settling or moisture pushing up through the slab all need addressing before a finish goes on. Surface wear, discoloration, old stain and general tiredness are exactly what overlays are for.
Overlays Compared With Polishing
If the concrete itself is in good condition and you like the look of concrete, polished concrete refines the slab you already have rather than adding a layer. It is the lower cost route when the existing surface is sound.
Overlays are the answer when you want a different look entirely, or when the surface is too far gone to polish.
Traction Underfoot
Pool decks and patios get wet, so slip resistance is specified rather than assumed. A textured finish grips on its own, and where a smoother look is wanted a traction additive goes into the sealer. Tell us how the area gets used.
Living With an Overlay
An overlay is a finished surface, not a decorative skin, and it is sealed for the use it will get. Outdoor patios need a sealer chosen for sun exposure, because UV is what fades a finish here long before traffic wears it.
Maintenance is sweeping and rinsing, with resealing on a schedule that depends on exposure. Covered areas go much longer between coats than a south facing patio that bakes all summer.
